Self-fertile muscadine plants are available in bronze, black and red varieties. Self-fertile plants can produce with just one plant. Self-fertile varieties produce more pounds of fruit per vine than the female varieties. However, the self-fertile fruit does not get as big as the female varieties but they do produce sweet, delicious fruit.
On average, a self-fertile muscadine plant will produce anywhere from 60-100 pounds of fruit per vine. The self-fertile varieties also make some of the best muscadine wine.

The Nesbitt muscadine vine is a black self-fertile variety that produces good size fruit with large clusters. The muscadine fruit also has edible skin which is the healthiest part of the fruit. This muscadine is very productive. This variety is also disease resistant and the fruit has a dry scar. The muscadine vine produces fruit that ripens mid to late season. 18% sugar.
The Carlos muscadine vine is a self-fertile variety that produces medium size fruit with good quality. The Carlos muscadine is the standard for white wine. This muscadine vine is vigorous with high fruit yield. Carlos is cold hardy and disease resistant. Ripens early season. 16% sugar.
The Noble muscadine vine is a black self-fertile variety that produces medium size fruit with good quality and large clusters. This muscadine variety is the standard for making red wine. Wineries throughout Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee use this variety to make quality red muscadine wine. The muscadine vine is very vigorous, cold hardy and disease resistant.
